Model and Talent Management FAQ

We understand the industry can feel confusing and overwhelming. The questions below are the ones most commonly asked.

• What is a talent manager?

Talent managers direct and support individuals in creative fields to advance their careers.

• What is the difference between an agency and SAVVY Talent Management?

Agencies schedule auditions, manage bookings, and negotiate contracts for models and talent. SAVVY provides strategic guidance and mentorship to equip talent with everything they need to launch their careers, and pursue agency placement. Talent will receive a photo session, headshot, resume, and recommendations to the top agencies in the Twin Cities.

• What type of work can I expect with SAVVY?

Our models and talent have landed exciting roles in films, television shows, commercials, print ads, magazines, billboards, shopping networks, voice-overs, hair shows, runway fashion shows, and “Big Game” commercials.

•How many auditions and bookings should I anticipate?

Your success will depend on the drive, talent, and the effort you put into your career. There are no guarantees that you will secure agency representation or bookings, however, we work with models and talent with the highest potential to succeed in the industry.

• What does SAVVY look for when considering managing talent?

SAVVY represents a roster of vibrant women, men, and children of all ages. The three main attributes we look for are talent, confidence, and kindness. Above all, we value positivity and friendliness.

• How do I know if an agency is legit?

We only recommend Minnesota agencies we have worked with or recommended by industry professionals. If you are seeking representation out-of-state, you will need to do your own research.,

• If I sign with an agency, does SAVVY take a percentage of my agency bookings?

No. Agencies will retain 10-20% of your payment if your booking is with them.

• If I am scouted by an agent or talent manager, shouldn’t they pay for everything? Why are there initial fees?

These are great questions. Google searches can cause alarm when new models and talent try to figure out how agencies work. Articles may show you should never pay fees. In many cases, agencies in the Twin Cities might charge a minimal on-boarding registration fee and annual renewal fees. This is a common occurrence in Minnesota and not necessarily a red flag. (However, if you submit to an agency that is not recommended by SAVVY, make sure to do your research before paying any fees.) If you are accepted into SAVVY, the cost is not a registration fee, the cost includes a headshot photo session, headshot retouching, resume building, and mentorship for you to have the best chance of pursuing auditions and being signed with an agent. •Are modeling or acting classes required?

Model and actor classes are not required. We offer them as an option for talent because this industry is highly competitive so the more experience you have, the greater your chance of success. Classes are open to everyone, whether you are with SAVVY or not.

•What options are available for workshops and classes?

Training is available in a variety of topics to help teach best practices which are crucial in securing roles. We offer self-tape classes and teleprompter training for beginning and advanced levels. Our award-winning coaches also offer individual sessions for models and talent who are looking for general advice on how to begin or level-up their careers. Email hello@savvycasting.com for more info.

•Does SAVVY require professional headshots and a resume when I apply?

No. If we work together, our team will assist you with professional headshots and create an industry-standard resume.

•Will I need new headshots with SAVVY even if I already have headshots?

This is our most frequently asked question. We understand many models and talent have headshots, know other photographers, or have annual family photos taken. Photo sessions are required with SAVVY because we want to make sure you know how to move in front of the camera. If we recommend you to agencies or clients as a model, we need to know you are ready.

•Does SAVVY have auditions and castings?

Yes. SAVVY is also a casting service and companies come to us to find the best talent in town. Talent on our roster will be considered first to audition if the part is right for you. If there is a casting where SAVVY works to send you on an audition, manages logistics, manages the booking, and negotiates payment then there may be a 10%-15% booking fee which we would confirm with you in advance. If you find an audition/booking on your own, through another third party, or through an agency, there is not a booking fee. We’ll just be excited for you and celebrate your success.

•Do you manage models and talent outside of Minnesota?

We manage talent who are within three hours of driving distance from the Twin Cities. Auditions can come up quickly so talent need to be able to make auditions the same day when zoom auditions are not possible. Most clients will require being in-person for bookings in the Twin Cities.

•Can I audition at night or on the weekends if I have a job Monday-Friday?

SAVVY meetings, photoshoots, and workshops can be arranged during the day, evenings, or weekends. Most agents and clients hold auditions and bookings between 8am and 6pm, Monday through Friday.
